Due adolescenti, Francis e Tim, e un college cattolico negli States degli anni ’70. Tra loro e la loro voglia di trasgressione una religiosa: suor Assunta. I due la trasformano nel loro nemico principale fino a farla diventare il vero ‘mostro’ di un fumetto orrorifico. Ad uno dei due il risentimento costerà caro. Il film, prodotto da Jodie Foster che veste i panni della suora, è un’analisi del disagio adolescenziale che ha dalla sua la continua mescolanza di realtà e sua rappresentazione (nel fumetto che diventa cartone animato). Non entra nel gruppo ‘anticlericale’ perché l’attrice riesce a far trapelare lampi di umanità dagli sguardi, se non dagli atteggiamenti della suora che i due ragazzi hanno soprannominato Suorzilla. La regia è piatta, aderendo così alla vita quotidiana dei due protagonisti.
